Four Beautiful Waterways
Charleston’s location in the Lowcountry of South Carolina has made it a haven for boaters and water-lovers alike. But the area also holds a secret opportunity: river cruises. At High Tide Harbor tours, we are excited to show these lesser-known areas off to tourists and locals alike.
On a river tour with us, you’ll experience natural beauty, history, and a good time of course! Here are some of the rivers you can explore with us in the area. See which appeals most to you, and give us a call to set up a booking.
Ashley River
One of two rivers that dramatically combines to form the majestic Charleston harbor, the Ashley is a pristine example of a Lowcountry river. This slow moving, tidal black water river moves through abandoned rice fields and passes many historical sites, including Drayton Hall Plantation.
Cooper River
Eventually forming the other half of the Charleston harbor, the Cooper River beckons with its own unique variety of views and historical attractions. In addition to untouched natural beauty upriver, boaters on the Cooper can take in dramatic views of downtown Charleston, Cooper River Bridge, and the U.S.S. Yorktown.
Stono River
To the south of Charleston, situated in between the famous Edisto River and notable Johns and Wadmalaw Islands, the Stono River was the site of the famous Stono Rebellion—one of the most notable slave uprisings in U.S. history. Today, from Wapoo Creek to Elliott Cut, this gentle and quiet river offers visitors a welcome escape from the day to day.
Wando River
Lazily winding down through the northern reaches of the Lowcountry, the Wando River eventually merges with the Cooper, just outside of the Charleston harbor. Largely untouched, the Wando presents many opportunities for wildlife observation, photography, and swimming.
